‘Cyber Monday’ & ‘China Shopping Festival’ have played a huge role in popularising online shopping & Google did the same with introducing Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) for India.
As expected, The Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) 2013 was another successful year in terms of online shopping. It was started by google as a 24 hour sale which was later extended to 4 days on huge demand & popularity.
For those who are still thinking hard about last year, I’ll give a quick recap;
GOSF 2013 was initially planned only for 3 days i.e. 11th to 13th December. Later due to huge demand & response, it was extended by 1 day till 14th December. Online giants of India participated in GOSF 2013 & offered their products at steep discount. Flipkart, Snapdeal, Makemytrip, Amazon, HomeShop18, Myntra, Goibibo & many more participated in this online festival. It was a treat for Indian customers as everything was on the platter for sale. Fashion, Technology, Furniture, Footwear, Apparels, Accessories & everything one can name of was on sale.
GOSF 2013 registered almost 150% more traffic compared to last year. With heavy discount on products, there was huge demand & many e-commerce sites were out of stock as soon as they opened. Sales were almost 5 times more than usual. Myntra sold 1 lakh fashion products in less than 24 hours with profits shooting more than 3 times. Lenskart registered 50% increase in overall sale. Snapdeal witnessed more than 10 times increase in sales. These are few examples of the success of GOSF 2013. There was special demand for fashion, apparels & electronic products.
The purpose of Google for coming up with GOSF is to create an ecosystem for online shopping in India & has successfully done so. Although many said GOSF 2013 was average, if one goes by stats issued by participating sites, it was a great festival.
So get ready for another eventful GOSF. I am talking about GOSF 2014. This time it’ll be bigger & better. E-commerce in India is finding its feet & GOSF is working as a great platform. Though GOSF 2013 was great, we can expect few things or rather want extra from GOSF 2014 like:
- A lot more online stores/companies participating in GOSF 2014. This will give more options to the customers.
- Better categorisation of products as it’s difficult for customers to go & check every product.
- We can expect Google to create more awareness via mobile messaging, newspaper ads & mailers as there are people who are not aware about GOSF.
- More sites offering centralised GOSF offers. This will help customers to select what they want & quickly.
- Same day delivery as it’ll take the customer satisfaction to another level.
We are all shopping buffs & the success of GOSF 2013 proves the same. The results also proved that the customer is ultimately looking for quality products which are durable & if they get the same at discounted rates then there is nothing like it.
